Abstract
This is a conceptual extension of the Alignment part of TQM model, called Thareja’s AUM model. A detailed treatment of this model may be reviewed in other works by the author (Thareja, 2007, Thareja et al, 2011, etc.), especially exploring the implementation of ‘A’ in chasing of organizational goals, which rides on one’s own goal set. The challenge is not easy, but is worthy of the initiation stimulus. Simple examples, viz. the drill/marching of a contingent of soldiers, a rowing race of the teams of extreme orientation to attitude in Quality etc. are attempted to emphasise the rudiments of alignment and eventual success.
Deliberating on complex and paradoxical situations like Maintenance and Production, how the organization sails through steering along both, the short term goal setting versus long term vision. The superordinate goals are thus mapped, and smaller ones are continually adjusted to give effect to the strategic alignment.
Finally 10 Points for implementation are proposed, adapted from those of the Halvorson Succeed: How We Can Reach Our Goals.
