Abstract

Autonomic computing is a paradigm which promises to solve the problem of complexity of all the IT industry. An autonomic system will monitor and inspect the need of optimized resources required to meet a user’s needs and hide software complexity from the user. This field is emerging one and has yet to see a fully commercial autonomic system deployed and widely used. It is thus a challenge to determine the standards and quality of such systems. So far, there is no mechanism to evaluate these aspects. In this paper, the authors made an attempt to propose some guidelines for measuring the quality of such systems using parameters such as autonomicity and trustworthiness. If implemented, these metrics may help to evaluate quality aspects of autonomic systems. This method will help in future for standardizing the quality framework for an autonomic system. It will also help everyday users to choose better autonomic system among available choices according to their purposes and needs.
