Abstract

A Smart city is a place where people are provided all the basic requirements and facilities with the help of technological advancement in information technology. Automation of conventional processes is the basis of development in a smart city. The purpose of implementing these technologies is to reduce human fatigue, provide cleaner energy sources and enhance sustainability. The need of the hour in these modern cities is to provide safety and security on road, reduce traveling time and expenses, efficient space and resource management.  In the coming years, most of the world’s population will shift to these modern cities. Without these smart cities, it will be difficult to serve the demands of people. The most optimal way to achieve this goal is to implement IoT and enhance its reliability. The IoT platform allows dynamic control of system devices by establishing a direct link between the internet and electronic devices, like microcontrollers and sensors. In this research, we have suggested four basic models, namely, traffic management system, smart parking system, waste management, street light system working on the principle of IoT. Together, these models can form a smart city by conserving energy resources, improving waste dismissal and better space utilization. The main motive behind implementing this project is to demonstrate few IoT based smart city models while doing in-depth research about their practical applications.
