Abstract

Battery enabled electric vehicles are environment friendly road transportation systems. Energy efficient drive may not only reduce the power generation demand but also increase vehicular capability to run for longer distances. Electric drives can be operated with variable flux, depending upon the loading conditions. This paper presents a flux controlling strategy for improving the efficiency of an induction motor drive. A Fuzzy Logic based flux estimator is proposed for the appropriate flux estimation. Furthermore, the proposed estimator is designed to be insensitive to motor parameter variations. Proposed estimator uses only five rules with Mamdani inference engine. Saving in energy is examined for various realistic conditions.
