Abstract

Since the polymeric composites produce a deteriorating effect and are a threat to the surrounding environment and the present need is to switch over from synthetic composites to composites made using natural fibres. Bio-composites are completely biodegradable, sustainable, have high strength-to-weight ratios, cost-effective and provide zero harmful effect to the environment, therefore better policies and initiatives in this direction will enhance the utility of these fibres, and providing a positive impact towards the environment. This research gives a critical review on one of the natural fibres, Bamboo, its properties, characteristics and mechanics, which will help to elucidate the importance of bamboo – a blessing given by the nature, in the production of bio-fibre composites and will also, provide a way to cope up with the damaging effect of synthetic fibres towards the environment. This is facilitated by applying these bamboos in a better way and thereby understanding and predicting its mechanics, so as to promote and sustain the concept of Green Technology.
