Abstract
According to the Economic Survey 2017-18 more than 50% of the total workforce in India is employed by the Agricultural sector and it contributes around 17-18% of the country's GDP. Despite of the mechanization in the agricultural sector we need to come up with improved agricultural techniques to improve crop production. Improper irrigation management practices result in lower food productions and sub optimal crop yields. Also, there is need to help the farmers determine the most suitable crop to be sown. One way to overcome these problems is to use Internet of Things in the agricultural sector. IOT is the networking of sensors, network objects and devices to automate everyday tasks and perform actions depending on the state of the surrounding. The aim of this work is to review the developments in the field of agriculture to automate the irrigation process as well as select the best crop to be sown.
