Abstract

Sustainable green energy solutions for billions of today’s smart devices are not only a requirement but are essential for future energy perspectives. This paper talks about the recent developments and latest researches covering efforts to use green energy sources for energy harvesting like solar, wasted heat, thermal, RF, piezoelectric, body mechanical etc. Hybrid and combination of these green technologies are explored which can be used for powering upcoming future smart communication systems like device to device communication (D2D), machine to machine communication (M2M), Internet of Things (IoT) and fifth generation (5G) wireless networks. Paper also discusses current challenges, open research areas and future research direction. The focus area of this paper is studying and exploring various new innovations in field of using ambient energy sources for powering mobile communication devices. In current research work, static survey on the contribution made by various researchers in the field of green energy for smart devices has been presented.
