Abstract
With the advancement in technology, information technology (IT) and operations research (OR) has established the development of effective spatial decision-making techniques. Inclusion of OR technique can help to a great extent in land management, where conflicting factors may arise. The problem scenario can be visualized by the Geographical Information System (GIS), which is used extensively to assemble information from different maps. The non-spatial data comprising the record of right (ROR) information is generally used by the local government for resolving various types of land management issues. But, the non-spatial information is not sufficient to take decisions in the case of spatial problems. In such situations, spatial representations using GIS help the decision maker to analyze the problem scenario and take decision accordingly. This paper describes how multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) techniques can be integrated into GIS and used for land management. A case example has been used to expand the application potential of MCDM model in GIS.
