Abstract
The paper deals with analysis of modern information and communication technologies: didactic properties and functions. We made analysis of the rich experience of school teachers and university professors, presented in the pages of the journal Foreign Languages at School and educational online forums. We showed that at the present stage most teachers use information and communication technologies in varying degrees in the process of teaching a foreign language.
We considered the following these didactic functions: a) building an individual educational trajectory; b) the implementation of educational technology training in cooperation; c) the development of self-study skills. We made the conclusion, that the need to use information and communication technologies in teaching a foreign language is explained not only by the possibility of obtaining the necessary information in a foreign language, but, most importantly, by upgrading the very process of teaching language and culture.
