The Legality, Implementation and the Challenges of the 2014 National Conference

Abstract
According to the latest World Bank General Household Survey (GHS) Report 2013, Poverty rate in Nigeria has declined to 33.1 percent due to sustained social Safety programmes and improvement In living standards. The report put the population of poor Nigerians at 58millon, 'more than half of which live in the Northeast or Northwest of the Country'. Nigerians therefore called for a Constitutional forum to elucidate the key issues challenging the Nation. The National Constitutional Conference 2014 was thus convened by President Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR in response to the call by Nigeria to deliberate on the many issues confronting the Nigeria Nation- State. This paper seeks to look at the legality or otherwise of the said conference, the basis for the implementation of the 2014 Resolutions of the National Conference and it Challenges among others.
