Abstract

To design the energy efficient buildings it is necessary to gather project information directly, optimize the potentials and provide an appropriate energy efficiency action. Building information modelling (BIM) helps to achieve these and ease the workload. The paper investigates the suitability of information modelling application for energy savings in building construction through the case study. A double storied building in Pandhrabodi; Nagpur was assessed for an alternative, sustainable walling material configurations. The building model was simulated and evaluated for energy demand, i.e. embodied as well as cooling energy demand using the commercially available BIM tool (Revit). The study resulted in the use of low embodied energy and thermal conductivity masonry units reduce the buildings energy consumption. The study concludes that the application of information modelling helps to enhance the energy efficiency of the building through prior analysis.
