Abstract
The main objective of the present study was to see the relationship of coach’s behavior and the motivation of female athletes of different colleges of District Sahiwal Sahiwal, Punjab, Pakistan. A total number of 177 athletes who fulfilled the criteria of actively playing four major games including Volleyball, Handball, Basketball, and Netball at the college level were recruited to participate in this study. Data was collected using Coaching Behavior Scale, developed by Jean Cote (1999) and Motivation Scale by Pelletier et al (1995). Simple random sampling technique was used and data were analyzed using Pearson Correlation and Multiple Regressions. This research assessed different behavioral dimensions of coaches and concluded that physical training had a significant impact on the athletes’ extrinsic motivation and not on intrinsic motivation. Contrary to this, coaches’ positive attitude towards enhancing the technical skills of athletes had a positive impact on intrinsic motivation than extrinsic motivation. For mental preparation, coaching behavior had a significant impact on the extrinsic motivation of athletes. Finally, a positive relationship was observed between competition strategies and the extrinsic motivation of athletes.
