Spanish Abstract: En la crisis financiera actual muchos fondos de inversión monetarios han experimentado los efectos negativos de la reducción de su liquidez. Con el objetivo de exponer las circunstancias que han llevado a esta situación, esta monografía recapitula las definiciones y las principales características de los fondos monetarios en distintas jurisdicciones europeas y en Estados Unidos.

English Abstract: Many money-market funds have suffered the knock-on effects of liquidity shortages in the course of the financial crisis. This paper explores the reasons for this situation by reference to the definition of money-market funds and their main characteristics in diverse European jurisdictions and the United States.
