Abstract

A comparative study of part time defence forces in the Democratic Nations of the World shows that they are often highly trained and much needed at times of civil defence, civil disasters and protection of strategic assets. As the world becomes more cost effective the use of part-time defence personnel is critical in maintaining a strong and complete active and ready defence force. this paper also considers the notion of the "weak signal" as politics ignores the need to upscale part time defence skilled personnel.
