Copyrights Infringement and its Impacts on Developing Economies

Abstract

This article is on copyrights infringement and its impacts on developing economies. Development, which remains a quest for every nation, has led to the coining and categorization of nations economy into developed and developing economies. Copyrights-based industries contributions to the development of the economy cannot be over emphasized considering its impact on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), employment, revenue, foreign trade and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) amongst others. The research employed the doctrinal method in analyzing the impacts of copyrights infringement on developing economies. The result of the much unabated copyrights infringement in most developing countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Latin and South America are low Gross Domestic Product, poverty, unemployment, loss of revenue and tax, increase in crime wave, low export in foreign trade and low foreign direct investment (FDI) attracted into the country. The prospect of developing countries to develop is high, but that depends on their ability to mainstream and ensure adequate copyright protection in their individual nations.
