Abstract

This paper reports the results of an experiment we conducted with ChatGPT regarding its ability to take and possibly pass tests currently used for undergraduate admissions. We chose two biomedical undergraduate admission tests, the Italian Medical School Admission Test (IMSAT) and the Cambridge BioMedical Admission Test (BMAT). ChatGPT’s performance on the two tests showed significant differences. We have come up with a hypothesis that may explain these differences and it is now the subject of further investigation. However, the most surprising result of this initial study is that ChatGPT achieved a score on the IMSAT that would have granted immediate admission to the sixth top-ranked medical school in Italy.
