Abstract
Short vertical videos on TikTok and Reels have become a popular format for disseminating information therefor making it a potentially effective way of curbing MDM.. TikTok reached one billion global users in the third quarter of 2021 and is expected to reach 1.8 billion by the end of 2022. ( Business Of Apps, 2023) while instagram reels currently reaches over 2.35 billion monthly active users and it is projected that the number will rise to 2.5 billion by the end of 2023. ( Demand Sage, 2023). Numbers published in Meta’s advertising tools indicate that Instagram had 2.20 million users in Kenya in early 2023.Estimates indicate that about eight million Kenyans are on TikTok. The study will explore the best design for effective short-vertical videos and assess the impact of these videos on improving individuals' understanding and critical thinking skills regarding misinformation disinformation and malinformation on social media platforms. This study also aims to fill this gap by examining the potential of short-vertical videos on TikTok and Reels as a tool for civic education on the topics of misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation.
