Abstract

Governmental and private actors are deploying AI in ways that are dramatically and permanently shaping people’s lives and opportunities—and yet the public lacks input on how these data-centric technologies are used. To enhance democracy and AI accountability, this report provides guidelines for bringing robust public participation into the design and deployment of AI. It builds on lessons learned from other regulatory regimes, particularly environmental law.
