Abstract

screening is free of charge; however, utilization of the service is extremely low among in developing countries such as Ethiopia. Therefore this study assessed utilization of pre cervical cancer screening in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.Objective: To assess utilization of pre cervical cancer screening and associated factors among family planning service users in public health centers of Bole sub city, Addis Ababa, EthiopiaMethod: An institution based cross-sectional study was conducted. A total of 521 study participants were involved. The data were collected and entered into SPSS IBM version 25. Bi-variable and multivariable logistic regression model were used. Accordingly, a variable having a p-value ≤ 0.25 during bi-variable logistic regression was inserted into the multivariable logistic regression. Finally, P-value <0.05 with 95% CI were used to declare the statistical significances.Results: Overall, 81.0%, 66.4%, and 69.0% of the participants had good knowledge, a positive attitude, and good practiced cervical cancer screening, respectively. Family history of cervical cancer (AOR = 1.07, 95%CI: 1.02–1.32), contraceptive use (AOR = 0.02, 95%CI: 0.001–0.004), cigarette smoking (AOR = 28.72, 95%CI: 5.82–141.83), and knowing symptoms of cervical cancer (AOR = 0.18, 95%CI: 0.08–0.42) were significantly associated with good knowledge of cervical cancer screening. Women who had college or university level education (AOR = 27.23, 95%CI: 10.48–70.73), Screening for cancer of the cervix (AOR = 2.97, 95%CI: 1.24–7.12), and had family history of cervical cancer (AOR = 0.03, 95%CI: 0.01–0.10) were significantly associated with a positive attitude toward cervical cancer screening. Had got information from the provider (AOR = 0.11, 95%CI: 0.04–0.32), susceptible to develop cervical cancer (AOR = 4.87, 95%CI 2.08–11.09), and pre-cervical cancer screening (AOR = 13.30, 95%CI 2.05–86.21) were positively associated with good practice of cervical cancer screening.Conclusion: Knowledge, attitude, and practice toward cervical cancer screening were good as compared with other findings. But, to improve it more during patient visits for care delivery, healthcare providers should inform and educate patients about cervical cancer screening.
