Abstract

This volume analyses the outbreak and control of the Plague in colonial Lagos and how this experience impacted the socio-spatial fabric of the city over time. This is a transborder transmission of Plague pathogens across national territories in West Africa due to global connectivity brought about by colonialism. Despite the immediate cost of the Plague in terms of mortality rate and increased healthcare expenses from 1924 to 1931, this book examines its long-term historical effects from 1932 to 1959, especially in the area of urbanization, politics, socioeconomic, and environmental changes.
