Abstract

English abstract: At the end of October 2007, a Spanish courtroom presided by judge Gómez Bermúdez passed a sentence on the 11-M case, one of the most famous and polemical trials in Spanish history, judging on the terrorist attacks carried out in Madrid on March 11, 2004, an event which was the subject of much debate, not just on the nature and circumstances of the attacks, but also on the police response and treatment of the same. This paper was written simultaneously as the sentence was being read by the judge to the public, and is therefor an early reaction to the limitations, arbitrariness and blind spots both of the research done by the police and of the judicial treatment of this episode. In hindsight, the 11-M sentence appears ever more clearly as an attempt at a false closure to an event which is still submerged in darkness, and, in sum, as an attempt at a cover-up of the events by providing an official version which leaves many questions unanswered and unaddressed.
