Abstract
Presently, the current paradigm of the Industrial Building System (IBS) shows that 66% of the majority of Architects in Malaysia have poor knowledge of the subject. Indirectly this finding drags the architects as one of the contributors to the 14% progress towards the utilization of IBS from 1970 to present. In that sense, the article aim to illuminate the meaning of 'science or art of construction ' as well as the 'architectonics' in relation to construction design in order to link up the paradigm between the architectonic and the IBS. The qualitative method of the text content analysis is used to identify the architectonic meanings in the context of construction culture from the manuscripts of the architecture paradigm. The findings revealed that architectonic concepts, however, that there exist an intrinsic element of the building where it has been lack to taking account in the IBS model. In this critical review, to deal with the links into the abstract notion of the 'elements that make artifacts', therefore the 'technique' must see not only in the form of construction but encompasses the place where the interface between elements happens. The 'technique' from the architectonic perspective was seeing those details are the direct result of the functional diversity that exists in the architecture. The above argument strongly suggests that evaluation of industrialized building cannot be successful by adopting single approaches should be considered. A question, then, arise: how is it possible to systematically combine multiple methods in single research? IBS model has enormous potential to be developed as a method that can be thought as a theory that provides to answers the meaning of construction culture within the context of Malaysia if this concept integrated with the meaning of the architectonic. With this critical review, a more appropriate framework can be constructed for further research.
