Le système français d’enseignement supérieur : aspects démographiques et économiques (The French Higher Educational System: Demographic and Economic Aspects)

French abstract: Après une période d’importante augmentation, le nombre d’étudiants de l’enseignement supérieur français devrait demeurer stable en raison des niveaux déjà connus de fécondité et de l’évolution du taux de scolarisation. La répartition démographique des étudiants montre une singularité du système français, marqué par une diversité d’institutions exerçant des missions différentes. Une approche économique permet d’évaluer l’évolution de la part du Produit Intérieur Brut consacrée à l’enseignement supérieur. Cette proportion apparaît insuffisante compte tenu des besoins du futur.

English abstract: After one period of significant increase, the number of students of the French higher education should remain stable because of the already known levels of fertility and the evolution of the enrollment role. The population distribution of the students shows a singularity of the French system, which is remarkable because a diversity of institutions act upon different missions. An economic approach makes it possible to evaluate the evolution of the Gross domestic product’s part devoted to higher education. That proportion seems to be inadequate given the needs for the future.
