Abstract

The study investigated entrepreneurship skills and self-reliance among university of Calabar graduates with hearing impairments. Three hypotheses were stated in this study. Literature was reviewed according to the sub variables of the study. The population for the study was all graduates with hearing impairment from University of Calabar. The study adopted a census sampling technique which was used in selecting sixty (60) graduates with hearing impairments in Calabar Metropolis. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire called “Enterpreneurship Skills and Self Reliance among Graduates with Hearing Impairment Questionnaire (ESSAGHI)”. The data collected were statistically analyzed using Simple percentage, mean and frequency count and the following results were obtained Technical skills has significant relevance on self-reliance among University graduates with hearing impairment in Calabar; Communication skills has significant influence on self-reliance among University graduates with hearing impairment in Calabar; Ability to relate with others has significant influence on self-reliance among University graduates with hearing impairment in Calabar. Based on the findings it was recommended among others that technical skill training should be an important component of Entrepreneurship training for students with hearing impairment in order to build the needed skills for self-reliance.
