Abstract

This study Survey of reading disabilities traits among primary one pupils in regular schools in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Three research questions were raised to guide the study. Literature was reviewed according to the sub variables of the study. The population of the study comprised of all primary school teachers in regular schools in Uyo local government area. 98 teachers were used in the study. The research design adopted for the study was descriptive survey design. Census sampling technique was used to selectthe entire population (ninety eight teachers) as sample, which also represents 100% of the population of the study. The instrument used for data collection was developed by the researcher named: “Survey of Reading Disabilities Traits among Primary One Pupils in Inclusive Schools Questionnaire (SRDTPOPISQ)”. The instrument was validated by by 3 experts. One expert each from education of persosn with learning disability, Research and statitics, Test and measurement. The data collected were statistically analyzed using Simple percetanges. The following results were obtained; poor retention is a reading disability trait among primary school pupils; poor decoding is a reading disability trait among primary school pupils and poor spelling is a reading disability trait among primary school pupils. Based on the findings it was recommended among others that the government should ensure the provision of facilities that will enhance the teaching of children with reading disability.
