Abstract

Taking the characteristics of global law into account, this essay offers some insights into important differences between “religion” -- typically, but perhaps superficially or at least incompletely understood at an institutional or state level -- and the phenomenon of “the religious” -- understood in a more anthropologically informed and nuanced way, and which nevertheless impacts institutions and states.

Keywords: Global Law; Law and Religion; Freedom of Religion
