Abstract

In December 2019, a pneumonia outbreak was reported in Wuhan, China, which was traced to a novel strain of coronavirus given an interim name 2019-nCoV. The infection has spread to 185 countries/regions around the globe and India is also an affected country. The authors have made an attempt to describe and analyze the COVID-19 cases in India during first 10 weeks. The data has been extracted from various websites namely covid19india.org, earthexplorer.usgs.gov, and coronavirus.jhu.edu. The data has been analyzed by using STATATM IC15 and QGIS (open source geographic information system) software. The analysis shows that there is a progressive increase in number of reported cases. The overall Case fatality has been calculated to be 3.04 % (180/5916; 95% CI-2.62%-3.51%) at 10 weeks of onset of infection. Median age of infected persons has been calculated to be 39.0 years with value of 41 years for female patients and 38 years for males. Maximum number of infected persons belonged to age group 31-40 years and maximum fatality observed in age group 61-70 years. Of the analyzed patients, 65.21 % were males with rest as females. The percentage of patients with international travel which was 100% in first week has declined to 26.97% at week 10. The majority of the patients with international travel had come from United Arab Emirates followed by United Kingdom, Italy and Iran.
