Abstract
The focus of this study is on a derived variable of wage per unit (wage per hour) using the Sri Lanka Labor Force Survey 2013. In that this paper aims to do several things. First it will analyze the distribution and properties of wage per unit through statistical tools such as the histogram and K- density. It will then analyze the relationship (if any) between the response variable wage per unit and the categorical explanatory variables gender, education, occupation, industry, district, employment type and sector. Finally, this paper will draw some statistical inferences about wage per unit by analyzing the mean wage per unit belonging to different groups such as gender and occupation through the use of inferential hypothesis testing statistical tools such as the F-test by employing the one- way analysis of variance and the T-test. It will be, for example seen, whether there is a difference in mean earnings within groups like gender, occupation and employment sector.
