Abstract

The global automobile industry has presented quite a diverged growths. The original equipment manufacturers are eyeing for new growth opportunities by improving automobile performance, a development that results from increasingly stern regulatory requirements as well as technological progresses, more precisely a jump in automotive electronics technology. In the late 1990s, a rapid development of body electronics were seen, like seat motors, keyless entry, instrument panel lighting, and auto locking systems. In early Global Positioning System (GPS) and mapping capacity became popular. Satellite radio and the signals sent via satellite were included. In Late 2000s, wireless connectivity and steer- by-wire picked. Auto electronics industry in India is presently at an emerging stage and is lagging behind its overseas counterparts. This study is conducted to examine the attitude of Indian consumers towards the electronics in the cars. Further, this study attempts to assess the perception of the consumers about the electronics in cars. The data was collected with the help of the questionnaire. A list of electronics related innovative features used in passenger cars was made and the same was asked to the respondents. A combination of snowball and random sampling techniques was used to collect data from 452 respondents. It is seen that many consumers give higher importance to the electronics related innovative features, however, this is not seen in their behaviour. There is a resistance among the consumers to adopt electronics related innovative features.
