Abstract

This book deals explicitly on the principles involved in constructing and evaluating arguments. An argument is a point of view backed up by a reason or set of reasons. People argue, among other reasons, because they want to explain, prove, or justify a point of view or an act. Arguments are targeted at influencing people with a view to making them accept a viewpoint, proposal or action, as being reasonable, necessary or justifiable. The ultimate aim of every argument is to influence someone and make them accept the arguer’s point of view or course of action. We have listened to arguments on the radio, watched them on television, and read them in newspapers. And we have, at one time or the other, argued with others. But we know from experience that not all arguments have appealed to us. however, there are established principles or standards for a systematic evaluation of arguments which book explained i details as we proceed.
