Abstract

This study seeks to examine the social impact of lockdown based on the information collected through convenience sampling in the district of Palghat in Kerala. The sample evidence shows that the entire society, barring the government servants, has borne the brunt in terms of reduction in well-being. The self-employed too have been able to improve their family cohesion considerably. The paper has also sought to examine and evaluate the state policy response to the crisis. The initiatives of Kerala government to overcome the pandemic show that they are innovative and exemplary. However, decline in tax and non-tax revenue of the state is unlikely to support and maintain these initiatives.
