Abstract
The Statute for a European Company provided for the creation of European Companies or Societas Europaea (SE). Therefore an SE is a European Public Limited – Liability Company. This desk research carried out by Sally Ramage over years, resulted in a two-part paper, this paper being the first part. The second part, to be published in 2020, examined in detail the subsidiaries of these SEs situated around the world and this is important now that the United Kingdom leaves the European Union, with or without a deal. There is no transparency in this area of law, despite the printed and published guidelines such as the version 3.1 of the UK Companies House’s which states that its relevance is to those who wish to register a European Company in the UK or to those who require information on the administration and management of a European Company.
