Abstract
Kerala's ongoing fight against COVID-19 - combative and considerate at the same time- demonstrates everything special about Kerala. Kerala’s ability to handle the crisis garnered praise from every corner. This article tries to identify the reasons behind the success in combating COVID-19. The robust public health care system, the swift response shown by state machinery and collectivity that the Malayali people (natives of Kerala) shown are the three factors considered to be the foundation pillars of the state’s success. The segment that focuses on public health care analyses the historical factors that created a responsive medical care system that was accessible to all its citizens. The section that focuses on the response of state machinery analyses the proactive role taken by the state machinery and its impact. The segment that focuses on the collectivity of Malayali people looks into the strong sense of sub-nationalism, its evolutionary history and instances that depicts how the state stayed united in front of the calamity.
