Abstract
A review study of analyzing the Permanent Magnet DC motor in Hazardous Location is presented in this paper. DC motor is widely used in industries even its maintenance cost is higher than the induction motor but special attentions must be taken in selecting these types of motors to operate safely, when DC motors are used in hazardous locations as per National Electric Code. The hazardous locations are the areas where fire may occur due to combustible gases or vapors, burnable liquids, ignitable fibers and combustible dust are. The various temperature classes with ranges, various classes with zones are listed for a DC motor excited with the Permanent magnet. This paper provided the analysis of 24V PMDC motor under classified area like Class 1 Division 1, T3 class at 550 C ambient temperature. This test is conducted to check the motor under 550C and to find out whether the motor is running in continuous duty. The test data’s are simulated using MATLAB and the wave-forms are presented.
