Abstract
The single crystal of new Eu-based intermetallic compound EuCdBi2 have been grown by flux method and the physical properties have been systematically investigated. Crystal structure analysis confirms that EuCdBi2 crystalizes in a tetragonal structural at room temperature, isostructural with EuMnBi2 and SrCdBi2. It was found that a longrange antiferromagnetic order of Eu2+ develops at TN = 20 K and the magnetic easy axis exists in ab plane. At low magnetic field region, we observed the magnetic field dependent change of magnetic susceptibility and the nonlinearity of isothermal magnetization when the magnetic field is parallel to ab plane, suggesting that the magnetic field introduces a spin reorientation transition. X-ray photoemission spectroscopy confirms the presence of both Eu2+ and Eu3+ in EuCdBi2, in accord with both the paramagnetic Curie-Weiss moment and the magnetic entropy reduced from the theoretical value. Meanwhile, the magnetotransport properties imply EuCdBi2 is a possible topological material. Our results indicate that EuCdBi2 is a promising platform for studying the interaction between magnetism and topology.
