Abstract

The trafficking of narcotics disrupts societal order across all levels. Research aimed at investigating the influence of the social environment and characteristics of swamp land on narcotics trafficking is imperative and novel. The study was conducted in the swamp lands of Palembang City, involving respondents and direct observations. The analysis reveals that sociodemographic factors, particularly education level, income, and kinship, play crucial roles in narcotics circulation. Perpetrators exploit transportation services for distributing narcotics in swamp lands, utilizing modes such as ships, boats (ketek), cars, motorcycles, and courier services, often assisted by social media. Perpetrators have established internal security systems and resort to disposing of evidence in swamps or rivers. A collaborative model for preventing narcotics trafficking has been successfully formulated, involving the participation of BNN, the establishment of youth anti-narcotics groups, utilization of social media and information dissemination, as well as advocacy and outreach activities (P4GN). Monitoring, collaboration with trusted communities, regular patrols, and strategic area guarding are also essential for surveillance in swamp lands.
