Abstract

In her review essay, Toward a Notion of Environmental Bioethics, Professor Robin Kundis Craig reviews Eric A. Davidson's recent book, YOU CAN'T EAT GNP: ECONOMICS AS IF ECOLOGY MATTERED (2000), as a means of exploring the potential for bioethical concepts such as personal autonomy and bodily integrity to expand protections for the environment without turning the environment into property. The essay discusses the ecological reality that human life and productivity depends upon the environment and argues that a species of ecotorts could recognize this dependence by expanding the concept of person to include those ecosystems and ecosystem services upon which a person's life depends.
