Abstract
This paper recognizes a positive relationship between education and ethnic violence among former British colonies and provides insight into whether this relationship is causal through case studies of Cyprus and Sri Lanka. Both case studies provide evidence that colonial education did promote ethnic violence in each case either by socializing students to perceive ethnic differences, creating educational inequalities, or both.
