Abstract

This newspaper editorial ran in the Wall Street Journal the day after the music industry filed the first wave of lawsuits against individuals who engaged in illegal file-sharing online. In it, I argue that individual lawsuits are a bad idea on public policy grounds, but are also the natural ramification of court decisions that make it unnecessarily difficult to hold intermediaries like Grokster, Napster, and KaZaA appropriately liable.
