Abstract

This paper analyses the changes that have taken place in the professional services industry in the last few years, examining in detail the issues raised by the increase in the number of professions and professional associations from a conceptual perspective. Moreover, the specific features of professional services that may justify a different legal treatment from a competition and market perspective (information assymetries and externalities) are considered. Nevertheless, the prohibitions of anticompetitive behavior are increasingly being applied to professional activities. although public interest reasons may lead to some moderation in their antitrust treatment.
