'Interest Rate Futures' Market in India - Heading for a Second Death!

Abstract

The "Interest Rate Futures" market in India was originally introduced in June 2003. But, the market couldn’t have much success and virtually vanished. This "Interest Rate Futures" market was re-introduced on August 31, 2009 amidst of lot of hope and anticipation.

However, if the trends of this market (since its re-launch) in terms of trading volume are anything to go-by, it is appearing that this market is headed for a second-death.

Unless some structural changes are carried out at the earliest, it seems this market is heading for a silent and comfortable second death.

It appears that the interest-rate futures market is in the process of extinction like dinosaurs.
