Abstract

We apply the Non-equilibrium Green's functions formalism (NEGF) to the case of Ferro Magnet-Insulator-Ferro Magnet (FM-I-FM) and the Ferro magnet-Ballistic Conductor-Ferro magnet (FM-BC-FM) heterostructures. The spin dependence in the Ferro-magnetic reservoirs respectively. The current-voltage characteristic of spin-dependent transport is calculated as is the magnet-resistance. The spin currents display the crossover characteristic of spin-magnetic devices and here are calculated for device dimensions where fully quantum nonlinear and nonequilibrium response is exhibited by the current-voltage nonlinear saturation curve.
