Abstract
In this co-authored article, the authors argue that advances in biotechnology have had, are having, and will continue to have a substantial effect on the common law, legislation, and regulation, similar to the effects that the industrial age and information age had on law. Biotechnology impacts human rights, constitutional rights, tort law, criminal law, commerce, administrative regulation, professional regulation, employment law, trade and treaties, and other law fields. Lawyers, judges, and law scholars should give careful attention to the worldviews that inform decisions on how law should respond to the demands biotechnology places upon law and the civil and criminal justice systems.
