An Apprenticeship Approach to Developing Research Projects

Abstract

This paper introduces a technique designed to motivate students to learn (1) statistical techniques, and (2) conduct original research during a single term of research methods. The “Apprenticeship Model” prepares novice researchers for both initial and long-term achievement while developing term projects. Employing skill-based instruction and a controlled literature research environment, this model is structured to maximize student success through a series of scaffolded exercises.
