Abstract

France has recently adopted a new law which allows its universities to teach in English. This has been a hugely contentious reform. In this editorial to the French online journal Dalloz Actualité, the author explains why. She also explores the deep seated reasons behind France's fear of the English language and presents the sad impact it has on France's scientific production particularly in humanities, law and criminology.
