Abstract
The birth of entrepreneurship has lead to the profound success of the globalized Indian economy. Entrepreneurs encounter numerous challenges in the areas of production, marketing, finance and other business operations and were facing the problem of their units becoming sick in spite of the various Governmental policies and were not giving a worthy contribution to the Gross Domestic Product. The objectives of the research study are to analyze the various factors affecting entrepreneurship development in the small scale units of the industrial estates of Chennai.
The study is focused on 383 entrepreneurs of the small scale units who were selected on the basis of random sampling and were contacted through a well-defined questionnaire. A comparative study was carried out using null hypothesis, chi-square tests and ranking tests like Kolomogrov-Smirnov one sample tests. A financial ratio analysis was also carried out to check the financial performance of the entrepreneurs. The primary data collected was compiled and critically analyzed to arrive at conclusions.
Our study reveals that the factors that factors like education, experience and training do play a crucial role in motivating most of today’s small scale entrepreneurs. Governmental support and adequate finance as explained in the Effective Forces Model could nullify the frictional forces acting against the entrepreneurs and lead them towards successful entrepreneurship. This research study gives further scope to the entrepreneurs and researchers to get to the bottom of the iceberg to find out the other factors which could promote entrepreneurship development.
