Abstract
The separate classification of student loan debt in chapter 13 bankruptcy plans is an "outside-the-box" treatment that may enable consumer debtors to give preferential treatment to student loan debt. Separate classification creates a possible conflict between sections 1322(b)(1) and (b)(5) of the Bankruptcy Code, and the article explores this problem.
