Abstract

A synthesis of current approaches to managing the non-timber values linked to forest ecosystems is key to understanding questions related to ecosystem services. Issues of note include: examining whether valuing ecosystem services, and creating new markets for them can lead to forest management. The analysis of market-based approaches to conservation, and in depth coverage of two market-based instruments are critical in the realm of disturbance permits and forest carbon tendering. Furthermore, the recommendations of The National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy (NRTEE 2005) are upheld in the analysis.
