From the Age of Great Moderation to the Age of Nationalist Revival: Challenging the Modern State and Politics

Abstract
The on-going nationalist revival in Western and Eastern Europe is driven by the confluence of three driving factors: economic, political and social/cultural. This revival presents a major existential challenge to the status quo ante of managerial or technocratic society – a challenge that can only be addressed by re-incorporating positive elements of the traditional national identity into the existent systems of economic, political and social governance.
While federalist European platform is not incompatible with nationalist revival, the time frame over which it can be developed and the directions in which it can succeed are naturally bounded by the revivalist processes we witness today in Scotland and in a number of other geographies around the world.
