Abstract

The present study aims to examine the latent structure of the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) for pre-university students and to fit the previously proposed three-factor models into the collected data. A sample of 220 pre-university students completed the self-reported inventory. The data had acceptable psychometric properties as compared to the LASSI norming sample. An exploratory factor analysis suggested a two-factor model or a three-factor model might fit for the data. However, both models failed to display adequate fit into the data by using confirmatory factor analysis. The proposed three-factor structures of the LASSI provided in previous research also did not fit the data well by using confirmatory factor analysis. Possible explanations for the in-adequate fit were provided.
